JUNE 27, 2015 ROOSEVELT FARM

It was another gloomy day with the promise of rain [that fortunately held off until after lunch] plus it was humid.  We had 14 people plus Ziggy on the walk of almost 4 miles.  And, after the walk almost all of us [11] had brunch at the Eveready Diner.
NOTE:  If anyone has questions regarding the July 11th walk at the Walkway, please call Carol DeMicco.

It's a nice walk but not much to offer for photographs.

I bought a flower id book but it hasn't been much help identifying flowers.  So some flowers along the wayside

Some interesting rock formations

JUNE 20, 2015 MOSSY GLEN AT MINNEWASKA

It was an overcast and coolish day and we ended up with only seven walkers.  My directions said to turn right into the Mossy Glen parking area after {paying at] the entrance.  That short road was blocked so we had to go back out to the main road and just slightly up to the second parking area.  The attendants at both admission booths [hopefully because they're new] were quite confused about Mossy Glen.  But eight of us made it.  We were happy to see Eileen who has been recuperating from hip surgery.  She didn't walk but joined four of us for brunch at the College Diner.
I had scheduled this walk with the hope that the mountain laurel would be in bloom and we were rewarded.  In some areas the woods was just full of blooming plants.  [and I apologize-but only slightly-for publishing so many pictures of the laurel]

Milkweed beginning to bloom

In some areas the path was surrounded by mountain laurel.

Some were unusually pink

We crossed the Peters Kill on a log bridge.

This one was unusually vibrant.

It's a little difficult to see but all that pink in the background is mountain laurel.  The woods just full of it here.

JUNE 13, 2015 THE FOUNDRY, COLD SPRING

It was another iffy looking day with lots of dark clouds all around when I left home; but by the time I reached the Foundry parking lot, it had gotten much brighter; and by the end of the walk the sun was out.  It was quite humid though.
There were 10 of us and this was the first visit for us.  Scenic Hudson has done a wonderful job of making the trails and labeling areas with information.  [In fact, Scenic Hudson deserves kudos for all of the work-and there is so very much-they've done in the Hudson Valley.]
The trails in the foundry area involve around a mile and we were surprised that the info indicated that it would take about an hour to complete the loop; but there's a lot of reading and it did take about an hour. We walked through the woods so it was comfortably shaded...a very nice and interesting walk.  There's also a trail to the Metro North parking area and a suggested loop through the village of Cold Spring.

Since the walk was so short, we decided to walk toward the train station.  The sun was shining and the humidity got to three of us so we turned back part way to the station while the other seven continued on.  We did not eat brunch.
